Budget Truck Rental is one of the leading consumer truck rental companies in the United States, operating through a network of approximately 2,300 corporate owned, dealer and franchised locations throughout the continental United States, serving both the consumer and light commercial sectors. Budget Rent A Car System Inc. operates both Budget Truck Rental and Budget Rent A Car and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Avis Budget Group, Inc.(NASDAQ: CAR).

Budget Truck Rental History

1998 Budget Group, Inc. acquires Ryder TRS, Inc. and combines it with Budget Truck Rental to form the Budget Truck Group in June.
2001 Budget’s Truck Rental’s first 700 newly-designed, blue trucks are released from the manufacturing plant.
2002 Ryder TRS, Inc. is officially integrated with Budget Truck Rental, under one brand name, during the first quarter.
Budget Truck Rental begins to retire the Ryder TRS bright-yellow trademarked trucks from the fleet, and replaces them with new, blue Budget trucks.
From coast to coast, Ryder TRS signs are replaced with new Budget signs. Budget enters into a definitive agreement to sell substantially all of its car and truck operations to Cendant Corporation. On November 22, the sale to Cendant is complete.
2003 20,000 former Ryder trucks are re-designed and introduced into the rental fleet with new Budget logos.
Budget Truck Rentals has approximately 28,000 trucks and over 2,400 convenient U.S. locations by the end of 2003.
2004 Budget Truck Rental purchases 8,500 new, white re-designed trucks for rental fleet.
2006 Cendant Corporation separated into four independent companies: Realogy, Wyndham Worldwide, Travelport and Avis Budget Group, Inc. Through this separation, Budget Truck Rental is part of Budget Rent A Car System Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Avis Budget Group.
Budget Truck publishes a new comprehensive guide to do-it-yourself moving, available free at any Budget Truck Rental location.
2008 Budget Truck introduces where2® Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices with guidance by Garmin®, making it the first consumer truck rental company to offer GPS devices.

Budget Truck Rental has a fleet of approximately 30,000 trucks.

Nearly all trucks have a variety of driver-friendly features including air conditioning, automatic transmissions, power steering, power brakes, AM/FM stereos. Walk ramps or lift-gates are available on most models.

Fun Facts

Budget is the only vehicle rental company to operate car and truck rental under one name worldwide.
In the famed presidential election of 2000, a Ryder TRS truck made history by transporting Florida’s presidential election ballots from Palm Beach to Tallahassee to decide the election. The trip made by the Ryder TRS truck resulted in tremendous press coverage throughout the nation.
Budget sold the ballot-carrying Ryder TRS truck on Yahoo! Auctions. The proceeds -- $67,100 -- were donated to the American Red Cross.
In 2004 Budget Truck Rental was voted best place to work for commuters by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG).
